I have had a lot of questions about my homemade Paleo BBQ sauce, so let me try to recreate the recipe here. I am a bit of an experimental cook, so I play around with spices and ingredients that strike me in the moment. Feel free to add or remove ingredients and have fun with it yourself!
Mix the following in a small mixing bowl. You will probably have some left over, so transfer to tupperware for refrigeration.
- One can of quality pure tomato sauce (i.e., no sugar or salt or garbage added)
- 2 T of red wine vinegar
- 1 T honey
- 1/2 T cracked black pepper
- 1 tsp white pepper
- 1 TB chili powder
- 1/2 TB chipotle powder
- 2 tsp sea salt
- A dash of garlic powder
Spice to your individual taste. You might like it more sour or more spicy or even sweeter.
Note: The Paleo community is divided on the paleo-ness of honey and vinegar. I’ve read arguments for both sides. It is your decision if you want to add these ingredients or not.
